Fully Involved Vehicle Fire - Mikes Shell - West Ocean City
Friday, October 30, 2015
On the morning of November 4th Ocean City fire units were dispatched to a vehicle fire in West Ocean City at Mikes Shell convenience store off of Route 50 and Keyser Point Rd. Chief 51 was one of the first units on scene and reported a Volkswagen van with the rear engine compartment fully involved. Engine 1 & Tanker 19 from Station 5 were the first fire apparatus on location and immediately put 2 bumper lines in service prior to Engine 3’s arrival from Headquarters. Crews knocked a good amount of fire before realizing the magnesium block from the engine was involved and still burning, A dry chemical extinguisher was used to smother the magnesium fire. After confirming the Class D fire was out, Engine 3’s crew then soaked the vehicle in Class B foam to ensure that the fire was completely out. The situation was later placed under control by Chief 51 and units placed in service. No injuries were reported from the driver or fire crews.
Units on scene: Chief 51, Tanker 19, Engine 1, Engine 3, Paramedic 1, MSP, WCFM-4
