Body Floating In Ocean - Rescue Swimmers Pull Victim

On 5 August 2011 at 9:15 am the Ocean City Fire Department was dispatched to 61st Street and the Ocean for a reported water rescue.
Ocean City Communications received a 911 call stating a body was floating in the Ocean and a citizen was attempting a rescue. The citizen became exhausted and swam back to shore. Ocean City Fire Department Rescue Swimmers arrived on scene and entered the water. Two rescue swimmers successfully pulled the victim from the Ocean and began CPR.
The male victim was transported in critical condition to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, MD.
While units were on scene of this emergency a second water rescue was dispatched. Additional Rescue Swimmers and Paramedics were dispatched to 94th Street. While en route communications advised the victim was on shore and wished to cancel the call for help.
The Ocean City Fire Department wants to remind residents and visitors not to enter the water until lifeguards are on duty.
