Udzielak, Hall, and Lynch Successfully Complete MFRI Firefighter I

The Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company is proud to announce that Firefighter Tyler Udzielak (center) and Cadets Jack Lynch and Vanesska Hall have successfully completed the Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute’s Firefighter I program. The program was begun at the Willards Volunteer Fire Department in Willards, MD on 23 January 2023 and entailed 135 hours of classroom and practical instruction.
This program is the basic introductory course into firefighting and covers a multitude of topics including (but not limited to) fire department organization, communications, the Incident Command System, ropes and knots, fire behavior, safety, fire prevention, personal protective equipment, fire extinguishers, respiratory protection, ventilation, hoselines, forcible entry, search and rescue procedures, and ladder and sprinkler systems. Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, and team-focused practical exercises.
