Magee and Saunders Complete MFRI Instructor I Course

The Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company is proud to announce that Firefighters Sam Magee and Tom Saunders have successfully completed the Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute’s Instructor I program.  The program was begun at Salisbury Fire Department’s Station 16 in Salisbury, MD on 4 April 2023 and entailed 33 hours of classroom and practical instruction.

Instructor I is an introductory program designed to prepare the student for teaching fire and rescue programs within their departments and possibly for MFRI as well. Major topics covered in this course are the challenges of emergency services instruction; speaking before a group; safety: the instructor’s role; legal considerations; the psychology of learning; instructional delivery; practical training evolutions; and instructional media, testing, and evaluation. Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, learner presentations, and small group learning activities.
