Firefighter Schur and Cadets Kliphouse and Sisson Successfully Complete Emergency Vehicle Operator Course
The Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company is proud to announce that Firefighter Lauren Schur and Cadets Lexi Kliphouse and Braden Sisson have successfully completed the Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute’s Emergency Vehicle Operator Course.
The program was begun at Powellville Volunteer Fire Company on 8 March 2023 and entailed 21 hours of classroom and practical instruction.
This program is the basic introductory course into operating emergency vehicles and covers a multitude of topics including (but not limited to) safe driving and collision avoidance; Maryland motor vehicle statutes; route selection and communications; vehicle inspection and driving preparation; physical forces affecting driving; lights and sirens; basic control tasks; urban driving; negotiating intersections and turnarounds; following and passing vehicles; high-speed driving; dealing with adverse conditions and contingencies; and emergency parking.
