Firefighter Lauren Schur Successfully Completes Firefighter I
The Ocean City Volunteer Fire Company is proud to announce that Firefighter Lauren Schur has successfully completed the Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute’s Firefighter I program. The program was begun at Rescue Fire Company in Cambridge, MD on 19 September 2022 and entailed 135 hours of classroom and practical instruction.
This program is the basic introductory course into firefighting and covers a multitude of topics including (but not limited to) fire department organization, communications, the Incident Command System, ropes and knots, fire behavior, safety, fire prevention, personal protective equipment, fire extinguishers, respiratory protection, ventilation, hoselines, forcible entry, search and rescue procedures, and ladder and sprinkler systems. Methods of instruction include lecture, discussion, and team-focused practical exercises.
