Lt. Mumford Successfully Completes MFRI Pumps Course

Lieutenant Patrick Mumford, a volunteer assigned to B-Platoon, has successfully completed the Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute’s (MFRI) Pumping Apparatus Driver/Operator course. This 39-hour course was held at the Pittsville Volunteer Fire Department and is designed to familiarize the new driver/operator of fire apparatus equipped with a fire pump with the intricacies of modern firefighting vehicles and the art of moving water on the fireground.

Major topics covered in this course are basic terminology, water supply, water pressure and gauges, hydraulics, positive displacement pumps, centrifugal pumps, pump power supply systems, relief valves, pressure governors, primers, water sources, and maintenance. Classroom instruction and discussion, as well as hands-on practical applications of lessons learned are all utilized in this highly-informative MFRI course.
