Clean up efforts on the eve of September 11th, 2018, after a Nor-Easter tropical storm deposited several feet of sand on the Boardwalk and Memorial site. With the help of several volunteer members from Station 5, and several boardwalk goers who felt the calling to pick up a shovel and help, the memorial was cleared by 23:00. The city was able to clear the mounds of sand away from the area by the time Tower 1 was ready to pull up on the Boardwalk, at 08:00 on the morning of the services.
