Gas Leak Shuts Down Coastal Hwy. - 30th St & Coastal Highway

On Thursday at 13:45 hours Ocean City Fire units were dispatched for a gas leak at 30th street and Coastal Highway. Chief 750 Bo Duke arrived on scene and reported that a construction company running wires had struck a 2 ½ inch gas main at the intersection of 30th and coastal. Engine 3 arrived on scene hitting the hydrant on the southbound side of Coast Highway forcing the closure of Coastal Highway in both directions. Traffic was directed through Jolly Rodgers parking lot southbound and to Baltimore Ave. Northbound.  Crews on Engine 3 pulled an inch & three quarter line and two 2 ½ lines with a water monitor attached from the rear. The gas company was on location within minutes of dispatch quickly securing the main by cutting the line off in two locations. The area was later deemed safe crews packed up and cleared the area opening Coastal Highway in both directions. OCPD assisted in traffic control threw out the situation.
