The Officers & Members of the Ocean City Fire Department spent September 11, 2009, reflecting on the tragic events that occurred on this 8 year anniversary of September 11, 2001 where many innocent lives were lost.
A memorial service was held at the Firefighters Memorial at North Division Street and the boardwalk. Over 100 people from all of Delmarva gathered around the memorial.
Mayor Rick Meehan, Maryland Delegate Jim Mathis, Ocean City Police Captain Kevin Kirstein, and Fire Chief Larmore were several of the speakers at this event. A wreath and fire helmet that displayed ‘343’ was laid on the memorial steps by members of the Maryland Red Knights- Chapter 3.
Deputy Fire Chief David Cropper said, "Regardless of the emergency call that a firefighter, medical provider, or police officer responds to, they realize the dangers of the service we provide. The men & women of September 11, 2001 are heros that will be remembered forever!"
